Prevention

The best treatment for a chronic disease, such as glaucoma, is prevention. Today, everyone, particularly those of the high-risk groups before mentioned, must be submitted to ophthalmological examination at least once a year, after the age of 35-40. This allows for a timely diagnosis and prevents the annoying future consequences of glaucoma which unfortunately are seen even today. Screening for glaucoma is a preventive, quick and economical examination for the whole population which tries to determine which persons have initial lesions or who are suspicious and need further evaluation.

The glaucoma patient can lead a normal life, provided that he or she follows the instructions and the treatment his or her doctor prescribed and that he is examined often enough. It is only with testing that we can know the disease's progress and how to deal with it.
