What is the new diagnostic technology used for?
In glaucoma, the alteration of the visual field is given as time passes and no treatment is administered. The patient has no symptoms until the lesions in the visual field are advanced and he or she is a few stages before blindness. Then the patient starts to realize the negative consequences regarding his or her vision.
The lesions start to appear on the visual field’s examination only after 30-40% of the nerve fibers has been lost. The interest of the scientists and of technology is now centered on the early diagnosis of glaucoma ie. when the visual fields are still normal. All the above technology which is used in an innovative way in our center, contributes in the early diagnosis of glaucoma. The lesions of the optic nerve, of nerve fibers and visual fields, particularly the alterations in consecutive examinations, are the most important factors for the glaucoma’s follow up in a period of one year. Our goal is to prevent the glaucoma’s progress and keep the lesions in an early stage as possible. In this way, vision will not be affected.
