Christina Kanakis is an ophthalmology surgeon specialized in the microsurgery of the retina and the hyaline and the use of laser in ophthalmology.
She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Patras and continued with postgraduate studies in the department of the retina and laser of the University of Harvard in Boston, U.S.A, doing research on the photodynamics and the anti-angiogenetic treatment of ophthalmological conditions and the transdural administration of medication for conditions of the posterior hemicentrum.
She specialized in ophthalmology in the University Ophthalmoly Clinic of Athens and followed on with postgraduate studies in the retina and hyaline department of Tulane University in New Orleans, U.S.A.
She specialized in the surgical treatment of conditions such as retina abruption, diabetic retinopathy, precocity retinopathy, selected ophthalmic injuries, uveitis, epi- and hypo- retinal membranes, pale macula holes, hyaline bleeding and intraocular masses, as well as in the use of special examinations such as fundus angiography, electrophysiological check, optical coherence tomography and ophthalmic ultrasound.
She has contributed in the design and evaluation of vitrectomy tools and through her research, she was the first in the medical world to present the possibilities of the intradural transport of immunoglobulins and macromolecular substances. Her scientific work includes the participation in international conferences and publications in books and acclaimed international reviews.
